RULES AND REGULATION

The mentioned regulations apply specifically to the Dieng Trail Run 2024 also known as DTR. We strongly encourage all participants to carefully read and fully comprehend this section. It is important to recognize that these regulations are designed with the purpose of ensuring a secure, well-organized, and enjoyable trail running experience for all involved.

Participants are required to possess adequate skills and training to meet the challenges presented in each race category. It is essential that individuals take personal responsibility for ensuring they are physically fit enough to complete the event, with the understanding that certain race distances, such as the 100K, may extend up to 28 hours.

Maintaining vigilance over one’s health and condition throughout the event is crucial. Participants should be aware that withdrawal becomes necessary if, at any point, they find themselves no longer fit enough to continue.

Dieng Trail Run is tailored for individuals who are both physically and mentally prepared to overcome personal boundaries as they traverse the challenging terrain of Dieng Plateau.

Before registering for the race, it is crucial that participants are in optimal physical fitness and possess the mental resilience required for such a demanding undertaking.

Participants will encounter challenges encompassing both physical and mental realms, including but not limited to extreme fatigue, digestive issues, as well as joint and muscle discomfort. It is crucial to acknowledge that the organization does not assume the responsibility of assisting participants in overcoming these challenges. The ability to navigate and adapt to the issues arising from this event primarily rests on the participant’s individual capacity to cope with such demands.

Ensure you meet the following criteria before committing to the race:

  • Participants must be 18 years or older on the race day, regardless of gender.
  • Individuals under 18 years old require parental/guardian permission to participate.
  • During registration, provide your qualifications in the form of a race certificate link or official race result for 60K and 100K categories. Race qualification please see each race category page.
  • We accept Strava activity with similar distances and terrain for 12K and 25K categories. Race qualification please see each race category page. Valid documentation should be from the past two years and be recognized as a legitimate race or activity.
  • Once you’ve completed the registration process, participants must download the Medical Certificate from the official Dieng Trail Run website as a requirement to attend/start the race. Medical certificate is valid within the period of examination between 1-16th September 2024.
  • After being filled and signed by your doctor this document must be uploaded in participants registration latest until  the 16th  of September.
  • Without uploading the Medical Certificate, the participant will not be able to attend the event and will be DNS (did not start). Entries will be “Pending to Validate” until the Medical Certificate is uploaded and verified its authenticity.

Race Fee

Refined version:

As part of our dedication to sustainability through the creation of eco-conscious events, starting in 2024, we offer participants the option to select their Race Fee with or without a running jersey. Recognizing that many runners accumulate numerous jerseys that often go unused in their closets, we encourage mindful consideration of this choice. If you opt for the Race Fee with a running jersey, we kindly request that you wear it proudly and help share our sustainability narrative.

Race BIB Number

During the race, the assigned race number must be prominently displayed on the front of the runner’s attire, either pinned to the shirt or placed on the hip/pelvic area, ensuring it remains fully visible throughout the entire event. It should always be positioned over any clothing and is not permitted to be affixed to the back or on a leg under any circumstances. We highly recommend utilizing a race belt for convenience and ease of visibility.

Race BIB Transfer Policy

Your race bib is strictly non-transferable and may not be used by any other individual on the race day. If a runner chooses to transfer their race bib to another person, it must be completed within the designated period (the latest deadline for transferring to another person is 31 July 2024). The recipient of the transferred BIB must create a user account on our website and fulfill all race requirements outlined on the registration page.

DTR requires runners to carry all the Compulsory Gear for the entire race, no matter which distance entered. The weather can change drastically during the day as the trails take runners into mountainous terrain. This list is seen as a set of ‘mandatory minimums’. Please add to this list according to your needs. Compulsory Gear will be available for purchase at regular retail prices during Registration.

NOTE: There will be mandatory gear list inspection during the race pack collection process by our staff. For top 10 finishers, there will be mandatory gear inspection at the finish line to validate finisher time. Time penalties ranging from 15-30 minutes per item will be imposed.

The course encompasses technical and demanding segments, reaching high-altitude terrain with occasional remote sections that may lead to prolonged first aid/rescue response times. The route comprises a combination of village roads, switchbacks, plantation & farms, and narrow walking tracks, featuring steep sections on rocky paths, grass-covered paths, dirt terrain, and rough underfoot segments. They encompass public roads, both on and off-road, weaving through farms, villages, and utilizing service roads passing through private properties.

Consequently, the routes will remain open during the race, and participants must be mindful of potential encounters with cars, pedestrians, and animals moving in both directions along the trails.

The race held in September presents a freezing temperature, demanding course features high elevation gain, technical trails, extended distances, and various nature-induced challenges such strong winds, darkness, and rain.

The course is marked by the organizers and all runners must follow the signs along the course.

  • Marking the paths with red and white ribbons inscribed with DTR, including a reflective band, and employing vertical signs will be the primary means of guidance.
  • Participants are expected to strictly adhere to the marked paths without taking shortcuts.
  • In the event a participant does not see any signs for approximately 300 meters, they should backtrack to rediscover the corresponding sign.
  • The use of common sense is strongly encouraged throughout the race.
  • In addition, WRONG WAY flagging (black and yellow ribbon) will be posted to designate non-race trails.
  • For a contingency plan, we advised runners to download the GPX file and upload it into your smart watch and use “navigation” mode.
  • All runners are responsible for understanding the layout of the courses. Please familiarize yourself with the course maps on our website prior to race day and/or print a map to bring along with you.

Check Point and Water Station

Checkpoints are placed in a determined area stated by the organization, and they will not necessarily be located at the aid station spots. A race marshall or crew will be in command of the checkpoint. Skipping one or more checkpoints may be a cause for a penalty or disqualification. This sanction will be determined by the race stewards.

Not abiding the commands of a race steward may also be a cause for disqualification. The runners shall not inquire the race stewards about the regulations, standings, itineraries, etc.

The runners must certify that their chips are correctly verified by the race stewards in every checkpoint.

The aid stations are refreshment points established by the organization to provide liquid and/or food supplies to the runners. There won’t be plastic cups in any aid station, therefore the runners must carry their own container (mandatory equipment).

At DTR, no runner shall benefit over another because they have a seconding crew in place to expedite the runners’ passage over the race route. Therefore in the spirit of fairness and to ensure an equal playing field for all starting the race, we will penalise or disqualify runners for any transgression of the following:

Accepting any form of mobile support along the route, e.g. pacing or muling.

Not carrying the complete set of Compulsory Gear at all times.

Switching of running packs by seconding teams is NOT allowed. Start with one pack and carry it for the entire duration of your race. Your timing chip is attached to your running pack; it CAN’T be removed and must be visible to the DTR crew and marshall all the time

Runners are not allowed to accept any support from their crew outside the designated Aid Station areas.

Runners may take as much food and beverage as needed from each Aid Station provided by the organiser. Race participants will not be allowed to take any bottles, cans or cups from these areas and should plan on carrying and refilling their own hydration systems at the Aid Stations.

Runners may run, walk or crawl, but may not make use of any motorised or wheeled vehicles during the race. If a runner goes off the marked course for any reason, they must make their way back onto the course on foot.

Runners must make forward progress exclusively under their own power. Carrying, pulling or pushing by other racers or members of the public is prohibited.

Runners who choose to use poles must carry these on them at all times, from start to finish. Poles cannot be discarded, stashed or given to crew for keeping. Please be conscious of those around you when using poles.

Drop Bag only available at the Race Central

Participants can choose their own items to put in the spare bag and the bag is returned to the runner or their representative, simply by showing the relevant race bib. Bags must be collected within two hours of completing the race. It is not permitted to leave valuables.

First aid posts are at various points along the race route.
This post is connected to the Competition Control Center via radio or telephone. The medical control team was present for the duration of the race at the Competition Control Center at the Taman Syailendra Venue.

If a runner appears to be in serious trouble or injured to ask for help:

  1. Go alone to the first aid point
  2. Contact the line controller by telephone
  3. Ask other runners to notify the First Aid team

Every runner should help anyone in danger and notify the first aid point.
Please note, due to environmental issues and the type of competition, assistance may take longer than expected to arrive. Therefore, your personal safety and security depends on the quality of the items in your bag.

A runner who contacts a doctor or rescuer submits himself to their authority and responsibility for decision making. At times when a runner’s health requires him to receive treatment via an intravenous line (infusion-pen.) the runner is required to leave the race.

First responders and doctors have the right to:

  1. Removing a runner from the race (by canceling the BIB-race) if they feel they are not healthy enough to continue the race
  2. Evacuate by any means any runner who is deemed to be in danger
  3. Hospital treatment is carried out if the runner’s condition requires intensive or further treatment.

The choice of evacuation equipment and hospital is the decision of the first aider and the official doctor. Expenditures for medical treatment, both for emergency assistance and evacuation, are paid by the person receiving treatment who is also responsible for paying all costs related to returning from the area where they were rescued.

Runners who knowingly leave the marked route are no longer under the responsibility of the organizers

The 25k, 60k and 100K categories MUST carry Mandatory Gears during the race. Checks will be carried out when collecting the race package (RPC) and at the finish (applies to potential winners). If the potential winner does not complete the Mandatory Gears, the committee has the right to disqualify.

The organizer has the exclusive right to approve/reject registration, including the right to grant dispensation (with careful consideration) for those who do not meet the qualification criteria.

The committee reserves the right to change the route at any time with warning.

In the event of undesirable weather conditions (high amount of precipitation at altitude, risk of strong storms) the start time of the race can only be moved back for a few hours, after which the race is cancelled.

In the event of adverse meteorological conditions, and for safety reasons, the organizers reserve the right to stop the race or change the time limits.

In the event of cancellation of the race, for any reason, which is decided more than 15 days before the start date of the race, part of the registration fee will be refunded.

The amount of money refunded is determined by allowing the committee to cover all costs that have been incurred and cannot be refunded, up to the date of cancellation of the competition.

If the race is canceled less than 15 days before the start or if the race is stopped in the middle, for any reason, there will be no refund of the registration fee.

Each Race Number (BIB) is given individually to the runner after submitting:

  1. Proof of identity with photo
  2. Competition bag/belt and all mandatory equipment

Race Number (BIB) must be worn on the chest or stomach and must always be clearly visible during the race. Therefore, the BIB should always be worn over the outermost layer of clothing and should not for any reason be attached to the back or legs. Sponsor names and logos may not be changed, or hidden.

Race Number (BIB) is an identity card that is needed to be able to board shuttle vehicles, buses, access food and drink stations, medical care, rest areas, showers, and places to store and retrieve spare bags. Unless you refuse to comply with the decision taken by the competition committee, your BIB will never be taken back, but if you quit the competition, your BIB will be deactivated.

Participants hereby waive, release, declare that they will not sue the Organizer and will release the Organizer and all parties related to the Organizer for any responsibility, claim, action, or loss that may arise or be related to the Participant’s registration or participation in the Dieng Trail Run 2024 event.

Personal accident:

Every competition participant must and is required to have accident insurance. If they do not have insurance and must be referred to a hospital, the hospital costs will be borne by the participant.

Note: accident evacuation will be carried out when an accident occurs and transportation is available.
Evacuation options are entirely up to the committee, who will systematically prioritize runner safety

All objections must be made in writing and submitted to the course director, with a guarantee of IDR 1,000,000 (non-refundable if the objection is deemed invalid), within two hours of the runner arriving at the arrival point.
